What are everybody's thoughts on the Israel/Lebanon conflict. Some pretty serious shit going on right now. My ex-drummer and friend is in Israel right now and I'm scared as hhell for him. Now that isreal is saying that the missles being dropped on them are iranian I'm almost positive bush will use it as an excuse to invade Iran.

no, he won't. even in the conversation that he had with blair that was picked up by a microphone the two didn't know was on... the most he has suggested doing is sending Rice to the region to try to broker some kind of agreement. the israelis are justified and more than capable of taking care of themselves by the way. they don't need us... and in this case, an invasion would not be the course of action to take. if we were to assist them, we could easily gain a surrender from Iran or any other nation over there, the only reason we are having a hard time in Iraq is because we are an occupying force, an entirely different thing altogether from winning a war. with our air power and abilty to strike fast and strike hard... any conflict over there in terms of conventional war is a small deal for us. the only way it could become a problem is if we were to actually invade them, which i dont' see happenning.

despite what people who love to spread fear like to say, this thing, or any other conflict is not going to go nuclear. because any country would have to be able to figure out by now that starting that with us is dumb, they might get a city or two (not saying thats insignifigant, you'll see waht i'm saying) but we would destroy their entire COUNTRY in retaliation. with the arsenal we have, submarines, silos, not to mention the air force, nobody is going to dare go far enough to push us to that alternative.

I think this could very easily escalate into a bigger war. Who knows what Iran would do? Who knows what Bush would do? If the US helped Israel, I think that terrorist attack planning would be at its highest. It is scary.

What do you think of Obadiah Shoher's views on the Middle East conflict? One can argue, of course, that Shoher is ultra-right, but his followers are far from being a marginal group. Also, he rejects Jewish moralistic reasoning - that's alone is highly unusual for the Israeli right. And he is very influential here in Israel. So what do you think? uh, here's the site in question: Middle East conflict

I think it's a serious concern.
