Me and the drummer from my band are going to buy a bass within the next few weeks, and since neither of us really play we want to get a lower end one that still sounds nice. Any suggestions? prefferably not more that 200...which is ridiculous, asking for a good sound at that price i know, but the best in that range...and a good bass amp

for a bass i would say an OLP stingray, you might find one of those somewhere close to 200. my dad did anyway, he's a bass player and he really likes his. dono about bass amps though.
My ESP B-55 LTD 5-string cost about $180, and ahs some of the greatesttone you'll ever want. But the strings it comes with are kind of low gauge, so I'd replace the strings with a high gauge, and that could cost around $20-$30. All in all worth it. The 4 string is just as good, too.
This isn't really answering your question but yea.. Remember that you have to use a bass amp with a bass. Or at least that's what I've been told. If this is the case and you don't have a bass amp, you may even want to consider one of those package deals.
I'm guessing your a guitarist maybe? Don't use your amp unless your sure. I heard something about guitar amps can't take the lows of a bass. I've never put mine to the test and don't really plan on it.
