Review Washburn D56SW

Review by a visitor on Jan 3, 2007

Purchased at Middletown Music (If you are near Middletown DE this is a great little music store, prices are always better than internet and I can't believe how much is stuffed into this little store)
Paid $600
I was looking for a second guitar for my Son this Christmas and after Musicians Friend totally messed up the order (They never sent the guitar and still have not refunded my money) I went to Middletown Music and found this awsome Washburn Dreadnaught.

  Features

This guitar has all the features that make a truely great sounding guitar. All solid spruce top, solid redwood back and sides, bone nut and bridge. Great sound that only a solid redwood can produce. Very clean look with beautiful gloss finish. Setup was very good from store.

  Playability

The action on this guitar was set up fairly low and while it does not have as narrow a neck as some Yamaha acoustics, the neck is narrower than most dreadnaughts

  Quality

Sound of this guitar is bright and has excellance resonance. In side by side comparisons this guitar sounds as good as American Made guitars that cost twice the street price.

  Durability

Tuning machines are excellent and stays in tune. Very well constructed, sound should improve with age.

  Overall

When I was looking for a second acoustic guitar for my middle son I wanted a guitar with good sound and quality but did not want to spend a fortune for an American Made guitar. When I first played the D56SW at Middletown Music (Delaware) I was blown away. The D56SW sounds as bright and has the resonance of guitars costing twice it's price. The quality of the D56SW is excellent and that is surprising, considering that it was manufactured in China. The gloss finish of the solid spruce top and solid redwood back is perfect. The maple binding and inlays are beautiful without looking tacky. The setup on this guitar was perfect right from the store. The neck on this guitar feels slightly narrower than standard dreadnaught acoustics and is really easy to play. This is the forth acoustic guitar I have purchased and is by far the best value of any guitar I have seen. To find an equivalent guitar from Martin or Taylor you would have to spend about twice the street price of the D56SW. It is not surprising that an all solid wood guitar with rosewood back, bone nut and bridge would out perform the higher priced Martin's and Taylor's since the low end Martin's and Taylor's lack most of the D56SW features. So if you want the sound that only a solid wood guitar can provide and don't have money to throw away on a name, buy a Washburn D56SW. Oh, and I forgot to mention that Washburn is currently running a $50 rebate for any D56SW guitars purchased from Washburn dealers.
