Review Schecter Omen 6

I was looking for a low to mid-level electric guitar to supplement my collection. After looking online at what was out there in the $250 - $350 price range I went to my local music shop to see if anything they had there compared. I was not familiar with the Schecter instrument line and was in the market for a good Ibanez. After playing several of the Ibanez models I plucked a gloss black Schecter Omen-6 from the wall and spent the next 45 minutes playing it - the neck, balance and overall feel of the guitar was awesome. Priced at $299 (which is comparable to any of the "sale" prices online for the same instrument) this guitar was sold!

  Features

This is a standard Omen-6 Diamond Series, gloss black with dual humbuckers, tone/volume, 3-way switch, bolt-on maple/rosewood neck and Grover tuners. I read many reviews that pigeon-hole this as a thrash/metal guitar, mostly due to the "low-end" humbuckers (read: not seymor duncans, etc...). I also read others that disagreed, as do I. I have been playing for 28 years and have owned or played just about EVERY type of guitar out there. All the brand name hype is, in most cases, just that - hype. Every guitar is an individual instrument and many so called "cheap" guitars I have owned have been far more playable than some of the best known hi-end models out there. This is one of them. Straight into my Crate practice amp I was able to dial in everything from country twang to heavy thrash. Combine this guitar with a good pedal set and you can acheive just about any sound you want. But the REAL key is the feel - the 24 jumbo frets and 25.5 neck are easy to navigate and the balance as it sits in lap or strapped over the shoulder makes it comfortable enough to play for hours on end. Learn to tweak your electronics and this becomes a solid mid-level guitar that can fit easily as a home diddle-box or a trusty road horse.

  Playability

As stated above - this is an extremely playable guitar! Good tone (if you can turn a dial) and player-friendly neck make this a go-to axe for any situation. The intonation is solid with a proper set-up ( I like mine low and lean) and the tuner/bridge keep the strings in tune even after massive thrash or deep blusey bends. Play on, brother, play on...

  Durability

It seems to be well constructed, but ownership is less than a week. The pots are smooth and silient - for now. This being the biggest thing I have found with cheaper guitars - noisy pots within the first year. The tuners are sturdy should adjust smoothly for some time. I have read other reviews that indicate the overall ability of this guitar to withstand moderate abuse and still keep ticking is good.

IMHO this is guitar makes a good all-around addition to any modest collection. It will quickly become your standard work horse if your not careful.

recently purchased from ebay for roughly $170. i was originally turn between this guitar and the ESP F50, which i purchased, so when i saw the omen6 going for so cheap, i thought inulld score it.

  Features

so far from playing through my rig, i cannullt find any weak points on this guitar. it has a great tone and sustain and the notes have good clarity even through the massive amounts of distortion i throw on top of it. right out of the box it sounds better than my ESP and the jackson i owned before that. it feels great to play as well.

  Playability

itnulls got great action and the feel is comparable to PRS and Gibson guitars. i play a range of music using mountains of fx and this guitar handles them beautifully.

  Quality

as soon as i pulled this out of the box, i plugged into my rig to tune it up. without even turning the distortion off, i had enough note clarity to tune this guitar to my k2000. it gives a great growling tone that, like i said, is better than my ESP right away. the sound quality is monsterous for a guitar in this price range. i compared it to a jackson with EMG humbuckers for several hundred more and the omen blew it away. the sustain is incredible.

  Durability

so far i havennullt had to make any adjustments to this guitar aside from tuning it up. i donnullt even plan to replace the pickups as i did with my ESP. i had wanted the schecter based on recommendations from other guitar players, and they werennullt screwing around.. this guitar is a tank.

this guitar is way better than i expected it to be for the price they come. usually the case with guitars under 500 is you almost always have to toss the pickups right away if you want a quality sound. not with the omen6. straight away, this guitar kicks ass. after purchasing this guitar (and upgrading my ESP), inullve got all the guitar i need. the only thing you need as a backup for this guitar is another omen6.

I bought it @ guitar center and got it for only 299$ (US)

overall the features and whatnot are great on this, it has a string thru tailpiece , Basswood body, Bolt-on maple neck, Rosewood fingerboard, 24 jumbo frets, Dual humbuckers, 25-1/2" scale, Dot markers, and chrome hardware. The black finish is also quite nice except for the fact that fingerprints get on it then it doent look too pretty...

  Playability

The neck is great for playing just about any type of music and i plays lots of different kind so it plays pretty well and clean. The humbuckers arent bad either.

  Quality

The humbuckers are completey silent and it has a great tone which i could easily compare to a gibson SG.

  Durability

So far this has been quite reliable of a guitar. It hasnt done anything yet that would need for me to get it fixed or anything like that.
