Review PRS Tremonti SE

Review by marktremonti on 30.4.2006

I bought this 2003 Tremonti SE in Knoxville,Tennessee in January 2006. It was only $500.I bought this guitar because itnulls as close as you can get to the PRS Signature Tremonti that cost $3,000.

  Features

Itnulls a very Good sounding guitar for all techniques like fingertapping legatonulls shredding. It has most of the features that a Prs Tremonti signature has like the 3 way toggle switch,Volume knobs, and pots.It has been throught hell and is still in very good shape i love this guitar not only does it sound good and not get out of tune it never really getnulls any dents and lasts a long while.

  Playability

Yes i can like i said it sounds good with all techniques and is extremely good for fingertapping.

  Quality

Yes it performs by far better than the other PRS SEnulls.Because of the sound, quality, style, and durability.

  Durability

It never needs and adjusting really it always stays in tune the bridge is very durable and the strings never fuzz because of humidity.

  Overall

I love this item if you want a PRS Tremonti signature but it costs too much then you should get this one i prefer it for all players.Prs still makes these guitars but if you want it brand new you should order it from the factory just go to prs.com and look up the location and the phone number for more details.

I brought my Tremonti SE in Orlando Fl for about $500 about three years ago. The reason I brought this guitar is I liked the way it sounds, looks etc...

  Features

This guitar is great it looks good, not amazing but its a good looking guitar.
It has all the basic Les Paul knobs and switch 2 vol and 2 tone 3 way switch.
the tuning heads are great. I never have to retune my guitar. I play in many tunings I play in Standard, Drop-D, Drop-C, Drop-B, etc..... And never have a problem with it.

  Playability

You can play anything with this guitar. I play all types of music you name it I play it (all but Bluegrass I hate Bluegrass). I love to play the blues on this guitar. Metal is my for most love and this guitar is prefect for it.

  Quality

I donnullt even know if they still make this guitar but I would recommend this guitar to anyone. The sound is great, it looks good, and plays good what more could anyone want.

  Durability

This guitar has been through hell and still looks and sounds great. I play this guitar 3-5 hours daily and rarely put it in it case. I have 3 small children and it hits the floor alot...a whole lot. It has a few digs vary small at that you can not see them unless you know that they are there. It sounds as good as the day I brought it.

  Overall

I think that a person that loves to play as I do would find this guitar the best in the world for the money.

Ordered it off of Ebay. Hey it was $200 cheaper than my local shop and it was brand new. Paid $550 for it, came in in a couple of weeks and i havent put it down since.

  Features

Come on its a Paul Reed Smith, you know its gotta be good.
Amazing guitar. It has great tone, but i used it on my friends crappy amp and it sucked, so i guess maybe you need a decent amp to. Not really that heavy so its easy to thrash around on stage, but still easy to manage so you can keep playing. Still wish they offered it in more colors, but still looks great. Come on its a Paul Reed Smith

  Playability

Great guitar. It can go into amazing solos, then go back to great rhythm. Its perfect for guys who dont want strats or les pauls, but still want a great guitar.

  Quality

Works well, but gives a little feedback if u get to close to your amp, but its really not that big of a deal, its not like ear busting, just a little hum.

  Durability

I think this thing is a tank, I play gigs every friday night with it and it has never let me down once. I just change the strings and keep it clean and it holds up to anything i can do 2 it, so far.

  Overall

I love this guitar. Itnulls everything i could want in a guitar since i play so many different types of music. I go from the blues to jazz to heavy metal and it handles it all and still sounds great, a great guitar in my opinion.

Bought in December 2004 in the UK for ?399 that included gig-bag, cables, tools.

  Features

In Antique White is has clean lines and is very well finished. The humbucker pick-ups are rated specifically for neck & bridge and are punchy without being coarse. The 22 fret rosewood fretboard has moon inlays frets of adquate quality, fitted snugly and well dressed. The fingerboard binding adds that extra touch to what is at the end of the day a modestly priced guitar. Not a great fan of exposed pickups I have fitted chrome covers that in my opinion on the white version of this guitar makes it look more sophisticated. The factory fitted strings are PRS 9.5nulls have a very smooth polished finish and great to play so much so that Inullve fitted sets to my other electrics.

  Playability

The action when purchased was set too high but was easy to lower and now allows for slick and speedy playing. The guitar is quite light (compared to a Gibson Les Paul) that results in it perhaps being not that well balanced - though this is a minor point as for me the weight was a key factor. Often lightweight equals poor sustain but thatnulls ceratinly not so here and I think this in-part is down to the one-piece precision made tailstop bridge.

  Quality

At this price point the finishing is to a good standard but not perfect as there are a few small blemishes in the paint that can be detected if you look hard enough. The nut bridge was rather crudely finished with sharp edges and was the weakest feature. I have now lowered the slots to improve the action and generally smoothed off the edges and now it looks fine. Treatments like this take time that I guess would work against the price. For anyone buying one of these guitars it would be worth getting the store to do these tweaks that at the end of the day it will improve whatnulls basically a good guitar.

  Durability

My guitars are used mainly for home use so not subjected to the abuse of being nullon the roadnull. In the time Inullve had this guitar there is a light amount of scuff marks developing on the face so maybe the paintwork is a little vulnerable. By comparison my Strat of 25 years is bearing up rather better. I had to remove and re-tighten the jack plug that had come loose after just a week or so but that seems fine now. All other fixtures and fittings are secure.

  Overall

I had always been sceptical about Korean guitars and though they may not all be equal I was impressed enough to dismiss this as a potential negative factor in my decision. This is a basic feature well made guitar and with just a few refinements can be elevated to become a very playable instrument. For anyone wishing to own a nullrealnull PRS this would be a good start.

e Bay October 2004 for $420 from a pawn shop. Came with cable and gig bag and tools for adjusting guitar. Was in perfect shape as attested by the vendor.

  Features

Very similar features to a LES Paul. Had everything that I wanted on a guitar at this price. 22 frets, a 3 way toggle switch, 2 PRS designed humbuckers, and dual tone and volume knobs. Appears to be well made. Read where the stoptial bridge was suppose to help sound and apparently it does. I think the sound is excellent and Inullm running it through a Crate 15W practice amp. Innotaion was right on and action is just right. Fisish is either black (which I have)or platinum and is perfect. I find this very easy to play and get whatever sound i want from it. Very easy to move up and down fretboard.

  Playability

I fine this guitar very easy to play. Very easy for barre chords with right action adjustment. Makes one sound better then they really are as the sound is superior. Makes you want to play it more and more so you tend to get better.

  Quality

I feel it is very well made and looks good . Not too heavy and has excellent playability. Stays in tune. To me

  Durability

So far so good. I use this strickly for personal pleasure and have played it regularly. Stays in tune fine. I get fingerprints on it but always wipe it down with a sft cloth. Strap buttons are fine. Should hold up well for a gig. Havennullt owned it that long but if one takes care of it it should be fine.

  Overall

I bought it because of PRS reputation for quality and sound. I know it was licensed by PRS and is Korean made I think it is an excellent guitar for the price. With a good gutar player it can hold its own with most guitars.

Didnnullt buy it, but it had about $1250 on it

  Features

Light, chunky, cheap looking (close up). its pretty standard with volume and tone pots and 3 a way switch.

  Playability

The action was really chunky and slow (the finish on the neck was crap too), the fret wire even looked cheap up close, overall very clunky. I was really surprised for the price on it, not smooth at all like I was half expecting coming from such a name as PRS.

  Quality

I had it going through a TSL marshall, and the pickups sounded really cheap, they didnnullt react well to the amp at all, something younulld expect from a guitar an 8th of the price. It had just a harsh clunky tone.

  Durability

Though I cannullt really say, (because I never bought it!), if you were using it alot trekkin around abit, I dont think it would hold up so well. Its made in korea, with really light, cheap wood through out, and going by the visible quality, Inullm not to hopeful for whatnulls underneath.... it seemed like a real slap together job.

  Overall

When I first saw this guitar I immediatly wanted to try it, Inullve been always been a fan of PRS, so my initial thought was nullawesome a cheaper version, I want it!null but after I played it... I was totally disappointed, PRS have just made a cheap, crappy guitar and wacked a PRS logo on it so people will think its cool and buy it. donnullt.
Inullve played betters guitars for half the price.

In all honesty, this is the BEST guitar I have ever played. And for $1300AU it would want to be. I bought it from Billy Hydes in Victoria, Australia.

  Features

Mine has a stunning black finish which has led me to nickname it "Black Beauty". The sound that you can get from this guitar is simply stunning. The strings are like silk.

The pick-up is made as a bridge pick-up which allows for a noticible rock sound. And the sound is LOUD!

  Playability

I went into the music store looking to buy the CORT G290 but after trying the Tremonti I couldnnullt go back. I even splashed out another $150 to get it. Anyone can pick this up and get a professional sound out of it.

  Quality

Compared with the CORT G290 it is more solid, more definite...the sound you achieve with it is the best possible sound for the price younullre paying.

There are 4 separate volume controls, which are great for mixing. There means the chances of unwanted noise is considerably less.

  Durability

The body work on this guitar is amazing, so I donnullt know if you want to use it at gigs. I donnullt simply because the gigs we play are not secure enough to bring it out. But if younullre established enough, then bring it out. The body is hard and solid, no chance of any damage here.

  Overall

This is Mark Tremontinulls (of Creed) signature guitar, and it is absolutely beautiful.
