The on board effects arnnullt bad, the delay and chorus are particualary useable. The tone it produces after some setting up time is purely quality at a low volume, but at gigging level, or at a level loud enough to get over drums in a jam, it starts to become very fuzzy and muddled. |

As an item for my studio I find it excellent, at a low level the sound is truely unbelievable, but for jams or gigging it just doesnnullt have the power to pump out good tone at a loud enough volume. |

The effects that are built into this amp are top notch, perform excellently. Sound quality as I said is excellent only for practicing without your drummer. Even with my Gibson Les Paul I found it to produce a bit of noise, but I had a noise gate so it wasnnullt really a problem for me. I think it was just all my effects anyway... |

The supplied footswitch and the amp itself are very well built. They have taken some beating when Inullm going between jamnulls and gignulls and both are still in excellent condition. |

I am considering a better amp as this simply isnnullt good enough for gigging. It would be absoloutly perfect for up and coming guitarists or someone looking for something damn loud for the bedroom, but for anyone looking for a bargin semi-pro amp, look elsewhere. |

Marshall MG100DFX combo amp (100 watts/one 12" Celestion speaker/with digital effects). Price paid: $425. Brand new in box, bought 11/10/04-(from the Sound Source, Rochester,NY)

The MG100DFX is a combo size amp weighing 65 pounds with a 100 watt solid-state amp, limited digital effects, and two channels. The digital effects include: an independent reverb plus chorus/delay; delay; flange & chorus. The digital effects can be shaped into some very interesting sounds...the delay can repeat your sound similar to an old "Echo-plex" unit-very cool! The chorus/delay is my favorite sound that has a nice studio quality to it-very clear full sounding. The digital reverb has a very studio-quality tone that does not sound "tanky" or weak like some reverbs tend to do. The effects loop doesnnullt seem to be usefull at all...when running my effects thru the loop they sounded flat and just plain dead! The loop seems to cut out most of the effects sound and take out most of the ampnulls high end! I run my effects thru the main input and Inullm pleased with itnulls sound. Channel one (the clean side) has a switch for clean or crunch which is one of the ampnulls best features. If you choose the crunch mode the amp becomes very tube like...let me explain. When your guitar is turned down the sound cleans up (like a nice tube amp) as you turn up the sound becomes increasingly more distorted and fuller with more sustain. The gain control on the clean side is important to obtaining this sound-the lower it is the more cleaner the sound will be at lower guitar settings! Very cool. The second channel features two useful overdrive sounds. OD 1 captures that classic Marshall tone. Here younullll be able to dial in classic Hendrix, Cream and SRV tones all day long! The OD2 has more power and is capable of getting sounds that are more agressive (more metal sounding tones). This amp is not a modeling amp...itnulls a Marshall. If you donnullt care for the Marshall tone then itnulls probably not a good choice for you. If you do love the warm "brown" sounds of a Marshall (in a solid-state format) then this ampnulls for you! One feature that I love is the headphone jack! Now you can enjoy late night practice sessions without waking up the neighbors, the kids or the wife! |

The Marshall MG100DFX nails the sounds I look for in an amp. I can get a wide variety of tones that really compliment my guitarnulls sound. My Fender Telecaster sounds great thru the Marshall amp. The Telenulls natural bite shines thru with the added fullness of the Marshall sound. The amp features a closed cabinet which adds to the Marshallnulls overall "big sound". I usually choose Fender amps because of their reliability and general quality but when I heard the MG100DFX I knew I had to try it out. I am very pleased with the quality workmanship, power and tone this amp provides. I have wanted a Marshall amp since I was 12 years old and now I finaly have one of my own! |

The Marshall MG100DFX performs well...Inullm looking forward to some upcoming live shows and maybe some recording dates as well. With itnulls good basic tones, digital effects and sturdy construction I look forward to a long relationship with this new amp. The amp does generate some noise due to my Telecasternulls single coil pickups. Single coils sound great but carry a certain amount of noise with them it just cannullt be helped! I have a Boss Noise Supressor which really tames the unwanted "snap, crackle & pop" of the Telecaster...I cannullt fault the amp for the Telecasternulls natural noise. |

Marshallnulls solid-state amps appear to be well made and very sturdy. This amp has plenty of headroom for live work and doe not require a lot of adjusting. Simply dial in your tones and younullre ready to roll. The 100 watts will not be overshadowed by drums, bass, keyboards or vocals...itnulls got power! |

I chose the Marshall because I wanted to upgrade to a more powerfull amp. The Marshallnulls additional 35 watts give me some needed headroom for solos. The price was also attractive...at $425 owning a Marshall became a reality I could afford. What really sold me on the amp was the most imporatnt thing- the SOUND! Inullm very pleased with my new MG100DFX, my search for an affordable quality amp has ended. Now itnulls time play! |

I bought this amp in a small midwestern guitar shop in the early spring of 2004. It cost me a cool $423 or so. Having had this amp for almost a year has been a great experience.

As for the sound quality... Overall, itnulls pretty good. With the clean channel, it provides a solid, crisp-yet-round sound that just doesnnullt muddy up. On the clean gain channel, therenulls a nullcrunchnull setting, which (when tuned right) gives just the right sound for chicago blues; clean but with that little edge to it bordering on electric. The overdrive channel actually has two main settings, OD1 and OD2. OD1 provides more of a classic rock sound, clean and sharp, but raw at the same time. OD2 gives more of a "nu-metal" sound, thick and uber-distorted. The electric channel also has a button that turns on the built-in tube emulation effect. When turned on, itnulls supposed to make this solid-state amp sound like a tube amp. It does a good job of it, but not perfect. A trained ear can still tell itnulls not a tube amp. But really, it IS very close. A good addition to the MG100. Though the sound coming out of the MG100DFX Combo is very good (Inulld argue that itnulls on par with the much more expensive AVT series), it just doesnnullt quite have the shining, brilliantly clean clarity or primal, raw electric bite of itnulls more expensive true tube siblings.
Which brings us to our next point: Price. This amp will cost about $420-something wherever you go. For the diminutive price, compared to other amps of comparable quality, the MG is a lot of amp for little money. Where else can you get a high-quality 100 Watt amp for $400?
The Effects and Add-Ons! The MG100DFX has a line out and line in for an effects loop, and also has four built in effects. The built in effects are: flange, chorus, delay, and chorus+delay. You can control the level of the FX loop mix and the FX level with two other knobs, to help customize your sound. Though very entertaining, these effects can be hard to adjust to where you want them. The four effects can be adjusted for rate. For example, by turning the FX type knob a little, you can adjust the timing of the delay effect. This method of adjustment can be very hard, as the variance is rather delicate to adjust. |

For all but the most discerning and rich, the MG100DFX Combo can do almost anything its guitarist wants it to. It has quality comparable to that of the (much more expensive) AVT series, and can be used for any style of music, and hold its end up well. |

The cooling fan on the MG can be a bit noisy at times. The amp has the buzzing commonly found on electric settings on many amps when the guitar is at rest, unless the volume is turned down (a common effect). But there is almost no operational noise whatsoever, aside from the sometimes noisy fan.
The sound isnnullt quite as clear and crisp as actual Marshall tube amps, but is very high quality for a solid state amp. |

Itnulls a solid, well-built amp that you can take on the road without fear of breaking anything.
Recently, the cord for the footswitch shorted out on me. Other than that, the amp has provided me with no trouble or reliability issues. |

You just cannullt find this quality on any other $400 amp. Period. But if money is not an option, go for the JCM series tubers. |
