Review Fender American Series Stratocaster

Review by subzero3009 on 17.12.2006

I played this in "Axis Music" in Farmville, Virginia. Did not buy it though. It was listed for 899.99 USD. I played two of them to get the best idea for this review.

  Features

3 single coil pickups, maple neck and fretboard. It had a weak feel through what i was playing, and it wasnt a very nice guitar to me. It didnt have a whammy bar on it (the dealer probably removed it). It had a volume knob and 2 tone knobs. Pretty good tuners, nothing to fly up about.

  Playability

Sorry to say it guys... The action wasnt nothing to die for. It was a slow action neck, kind of rough feel. Was only good for blues and rock rhythm. Lead was basically impossible on this thing, volume swells were very uneven and unsmooth. The volume knob was kind of hard to turn. It didnt perform anywhere near the American series telecaster.

  Quality

It is okay if you like a limited guitar. I wouldnnullt really play it again unless they had an absolutely brand new one. It didnnullt perform anywhere near an Ibanez (tremolo, unblocked), ESP EC-1000 deluxe, or an Epiphone Les Paul custom. I wonnullt say it is terrible because maybe it was just the guitar. It buzzed some though.

  Durability

Based on the item I saw it had to be a used one or a vintage one. The neck was pretty beat up, wasnt smooth on either one. The strings felt horrible, action wasnt fast, it was okay for rock but nothing fast at all. It was reliable and didnt need much tuning, but I wouldnt use it in a gig unless i put some custom stuff in it. It buzzed some because of the pickups.

  Overall

Its okay if you like a limited guitar. If you do get one, get it with humbuckers, rosewood fretboard, and definitely new strings. I am considering getting an ESP EC-1000 deluxe for sure though. That one was 10x better then this one. I dont know why it just isnnullt what its all cut out to be for me.

I bought my fender american series strat at my local music store about two weeks ago, and paid $850, I bought it for its very stylish body, the incredible feel and tone.

  Features

The features are great, but there is too much feedback when the distortion is on. I really like the 5 way pickup selector, itnulls easy to just flick the switch in the middle of a song.

  Playability

One of the main reason that i purchased this item is because i am much more comfortable playing this instrument than inullve ever owned or played before.

  Quality

the sound really is great but the distortion is a much cleaner distortion compared with a gibson or an epiphone. in MY opinion it is THE best sounding guitar out there. it has a very bright clean sound and is great for blues.

  Durability

So far i havennullt had any problems with it, itnulls deffenitley steady enough for gigs. i think everyone should have one

  Overall

My overall opinion is that it is a GREAT guitar for blues and rock itnulls much lighter than most solid body electric guitars so your back wonnullt ache too much after standing with it for 2-3 hours. the tremelo is really great and the string doonnullt go completely out of tune when you use it. inullll EASILY give the american series stratocaster a five out of five.
You have to considr buying this guitar. everybody.

I bought this guitar at my local stevenulls music store in Ottawa On. (thats Canada) Paid 1200$ (without tax). I bought it because itnulls an awesome colour and has all of the technical characteristics im looking for in a guitar.

  Features

I purchased a 2005 american stratocaster with triple single coil pickups. It is a nice lightweight consturction and the body is finished with a vintage 3 tone sunburst and high gloss paint. It has a 22 fret maple neck and of course the whammy bar and dual tone and single volume controlls. Its got a five way selector switch for different pickup combinations, and it has a floating tremolo unit that is excellent, and has a clean machined style to it. The guitar is AMAZING!

All of the american series strats are packaged with a hard shelled guitar case, complete with the fender logo embroidery. Inside the case a "Fender Monogram" guitar strap, A "Fender" 10 foot patch cable, a Fender polish cloth with logo and a tremelo arm (whammy bar). As well as essentials like your owners manual and regestration. Plus the case has a lock and two keys.

  Playability

The playability is amazing. The action is perfect on the guitar from the factory, and im gonna retain all of the factory settings cause these fender technitions know thier stuff. This includes all of the settings for the tremolo unit, the nut the fret size and even the track for the tuning heads. My good friend was over the other day soloing on it and he commented on the playability very positively. Itnulls got a nice clean feeling to it and has a very fast maple neck, no stickyness, even with sweaty palms. The frets are perfect and your fingers dont stick whatsoever. The guitar comes stock with Origional Fender Bullet guitar strings (whitch are awesome). Everything about this guitar rocks.

  Quality

The sound is flawless...itnulls perfectly clean and can be easily manipulated with any half decent amp. Itnulls got a characteristicly bluesy sound to it but is more geared towards the frontmans needs. I find it useful for absolutly everything that i play and consider it a "jack of all trades" so to speak. Im more into rythmic guitar playing myself and its astounding the tone i get, even with full distortion and playing chords. It sounds great with anything from Blues to Thrash and Deathmetal. It performs better than any other guitar i have ever played...take my word for it on this one, I may not be a pro but it was between this or the Gibson Les-Paul. I played both in store on a 250 watt Marshall amp. The strat is a much better peice of equipment.

  Durability

I havent even had it for a week yet, and nothing has broken. They say that the most damage that the guitar will ascertain is in the first ten minutes of play by a new owner. But everything was very straight forward, no assembly required, the hardest thing ive had to do with it was screwing in the whammy bar...thats it. DEFANETLY SUITABLE FOR LIVE GIGS! Just look at Dave Murray...and every other guitarist from Iron Maiden for that matter. Well howabout Clapton, Hendrix, SRV and many many other espiring guitar heros.

  Overall

Inullll put it this way, out of ten I rank it eleven. It is an upgrade on a completly revolutionary guitar and an essential in guitar history. It is a must have for any guitar collector, soloist, or just a guitar enthusiast. I would recommend it for anyone, from a guitarist with limited experience (such as myself) to Clapton. It is the most amazing guitar that i have ever played, go play it against a Les-Paul for yourself if you want, It is perfect. *****
