bought for around 1000$ canadian

  Features

It's a five because it's everything I wanted... but of course... there is a lot of guitar with more features... I bought this guitar because it was feeling right for me, It's a big guitar but doesn't feel like it. At first I was looking for a smaller size guitar but... was too blown away by this one. It's a very lightweight guitar compared to my guild gad (witch I don't like at all by the way) ...but back to my j15... I personnally love the look...I know... some people will call it shitty brown... But I call it good sounding brown :)

  Playability

It's good in general... I wish bare chords on the first fret could be easier to do... seems like I have to press really hard to get a good sounding F. Other than that is very good. I like to strum a lot wich a medium pick and I really like the sounds. Sounds is also amazing for all kind of crazy arpeggio

  Quality

When you touch it... you know it's a quality instrument.

  Durability

I take very good care of my guitar and so far no problem.

I love this guitar, it's the tone I was always looking for. Like I said... I own a guild who cost me the same price and I barelly never touch the guild... I tryed a lot of guitar in music store and this martin was the one for me.

Bought at Sam Ash Music for $815 in Jan 2007. I wanted a Martin but didn't want to pay a lot of $$ for inlays and extra decoration. I tried the guitar and really liked the bass response. Most of the other steel-string acoustics I tried sounded tiny and thin compared to the J-15, especially in this price range. I also liked the J shape better than the D (dreadnought) style guitars. In a side-by-side comparison, I thought this one sounded as good as a Martin D28, which sells for considerably more. It did not sound as good as the 000-28EC, but I wasn't willing to pay the $$ for the EC.

  Features

There are not a lot of features on this guitar. It looks rather plain, but I like the solid dark mohagany and the satin finish. It stays in tune for a very long time - once the strings were 'broken in', it has stayed in tune for 3 months without having to adjust it.

  Playability

It is a bit difficult to bend notes due to the scale length and the gauge 13 strings, and requires a little heavier touch than an electric guitar or my ovation 1861 standard balladeer. I also had to move to heavier picks to really take advantage of the strong tone that can be evoked from this thing. Once I adjusted to that, though, I have been very pleased with it. The tone is just phenominal.

  Quality

The quality of this guitar is great. The intonation and tone are fantastic. I would expect nothing less from Martin

  Durability

It seems very well made, but it is relatively light - I imagine that it would not stand up to heavy abuse. The intonation is great and the guitar stays in tune perfectly. It does seem to be quite sensitive to humidity - during Jan and Feb when it was very cold and dry (20% humidity), I would get some fret buzz if I did not wet the guitar humidifier every couple days. Now that the humidity has come up a bit in March, it sounds great.
I have owned it only 3 months, though, so it is difficult to say how it will hjold up over a long time.

  Overall

I really like the tone and bass response of this guitar. I would not recommend it for blues players that bend a lot of notes. It does well for solo jazz due to the nice fat tone and good bass response. I played around with differnt picks and was able to get quite a few different tones out of it for different styles of music. I chose the J-15 for its simple design, excellent tone, and its volume.

NZ Rock Shop in Rotorua New Zealand. I liked the full-bodied tone, and the narrower (than other jumbo) upper bout (I could reach the strings without drama).

  Features

This guitar is unique in tone. Martin tone. I recently bought an LX1E
Little Martin which I find to be superb for such a small beastie. The quality control on my J15 is not what I have experienced on the LX1E. I like the neck shape (slim and easy to reach). I don't like the too low action on E-1st. I have mentioned this before sending the instrument off to be fitted with the Ellipse/Natural1 pickup system. I shall be returning the instrument regarding the fretting out on the first string (only) which is not pleasing. I expect it will be put right ("it's the putting right that counts"). The nut is high. I reported this and was assured this would be fixed when the guitar was having its pickup fitted. It wasn't.
I am really really looking forward to having this lovely instrument playing properly. It's new year (this is a perfect present from me to me)so it will take awhile for businesses to operate fully again.
The ellipse system seems good. I intend to set up the levels (piezo vs mic) on my return from a holiday (the Little Martin will be coming with me).

  Playability

Unfortunately for this J15, the GAD Guild from China was perfectly set up, so I feel a bit let down. With a capo on the first I have experienced the ease of playing I will soon have without a capo. The buzzing (particularly on frets 4 and 5) on the first string is a chore and a bore which I am anticipating when it is gone. The layout of this guitar is so pleasant to play (doesn't really seem like a Jumbo, which is good because I was intending to buy the OM, but it lacked gusto).

  Quality

Lovely sound. I fingerpick. I use a pick when I have to.

  Durability

It's a Martin... so I have high expectations. It is not as well set-up as I had expected, but this will be fixed. I like the 'feel' of this instrument, I like the effect the Mama Bear modelling machine has on the recorded sound, and I hope to separate the piezo and the mic when recording (I am led to believe this is possible).

  Overall

I like this instrument (when it comes right). I am a little dismayed at the set up quality (buzzing, high nut), but it just feels that it will be right as soon as it is running properly (general build quality seems up to standard, and durable).

Martin J 15 all mahogany steel string. Purchased from new in the year 2000 for ?600 from Guitar Village Farnham Hampshire.

  Features

Strong points: Loud voice ideal for finger picking and mixed pattern pick & strum playing. Superb action. Light body weight

Weak points:Not such a good soud if strummed hard becomes a bit 'boomy' in sound

  Playability

This guitar is very easy to play in terms of its action right up the fret board. In it's price range it far outstripped anything else I tried. You would have to pay considerably more to get something that sounded as good and was as easy to play. If I was going to upgrade I'd be looking at some of the top end Taylors which are 3 to 4 times as much in cost

  Quality

Good loud sound when finger picked. Not designed for your loud chord strummer as the sound becomes very 'boomy'. Has a nice rich bass sound. Makes alot of other acoustics sound very flat and tinny.

  Durability

Holds it's tuning very well, Rarely needs adjusting. Works well when using open tunings as well. Despite being made of mahogany it it is incredibly light weight without any compromise on strength.

  Overall

If you are a finger picker or mixed pattern player this is the guitar for you in this price bracket. I play alot of Nick Drake stuff in open tunings and other non standard tunings and this guitar is the best I could find without leaping up another ?1000 to some of the top end taylor models I tried.
