I bought my dx1 at the guitar center in Knoxville, TN. I paid 499.99. I was just playing a bunch og guitars that day, Highend, and medium priced. I got to the dx1 and played it and was really surprised by the sound.Real good highs and lows. I sounded better than most of the high end guitars, so I bought it.

This dreadnaught is, to me at least, a blue collar guitar price wise, but everything else is white collar. It has no bells and whistles, but doesn't need them. I don't buy for the looks. I go for the sound. |

My dx1 is definitely an easy player. I can't use a pick anymore as I seem to have lost some coordination. So I use my thumb as it still works good. Guitar is plenty loud enough. No one has to strain to hear it . I have 5 other guitars and this is the best sounding guitar of the bunch. I played some 1500 to 4000 dollar guitars, but chose this one because of the sound. |

The sound is really great. I can drown out a lot of my friends playing their high dollar guitars, so I'm quite satisfiedwith the sound. Had a twangy G string at first, but I fixed it . |

I've been playing guitars for 59+ years and I think this guitar should be durable. The top is spruce and is satin finished, si I think it might stain if you got something on it that you shouldn't. I've played mine outside and inside and have had no problems with it at all. |

Overall, this is a really great guitar. Now I'm sure they will not all perform like this one, as I played 3 other dx1's that didn't sound near as good, so be careful in your selection. Play a lot of them before you make up your mind. Right now I have two martins, a samick sj14, an epiphone hummingbird and they all sound really good, so I'm not looking for another guitar right now. However, if I find one that won't leave the store without it, I'll get another one. Cost is really not a factor, so let the good times roll. |

I got this gtr from Island Gtrs in Honolulu. I play music on a cruise ship and have various duties, one of which is to stroll the main dining salon once a week. I have a gtr that would project over conversations and dining room clatter very well, I had a gtr that could do it well, my Taylor 410, but I didn't want to bring it onto the ship and expose it to dining room chairs, door jams, counters, planters, dividers, etc. I was looking for a gtr w/ a big sound like my Taylor 410. So I brought my Tylr410 to the shop to compare the sound that I wanted. After comparing it to many gtrs in the store, the sales person brought me the Martin DX1. I was blown away by the very big sound which was comparable to my Taylor 410. The bucks came out of my pocket immediately. I found what I was looking for. I paid $550 for it, but it didn't come w/ a case. I bought a Planet Tribe case for it which works very well and protects it.

It has strong and light composite material for the back and sides. The sound board is spruce. Laminated neck. It looks like a Marting gtr in every other way- tuners, bridge, metalized Martin marking on the headstock. Mine is acoustic, but I'm thinking of putting a Sunrise or Fishman Rare Earth soundhole pickup in it in the future. For now though, it works just fine for what I use it for on the ship. |

When I first got it, the action was set too high. I took it to my luthier and he brought the action down. I have many favorite gtrs for many situations- travel gtrs, electric gtrs, basses, baritone gtrs, etc. The best acknowledgement that I can give this gtr is that I can pull this DX1 out and I know that it will project over a wide area and be heard easily. There are no rattles- nvery solid gtr. |

This is a well built gtr and it is handsome as well. It is a dreadnaught size and projects that bottom end very well. It is clear on the high strings as well. I like to use the Phosphor Bronze Elixer (Nano Web) on it as these strings also bring out the bottom end w/ clarity and tone too- it's a good combination to get power out of it that you want out of a dreadnaught. |

I think that this gtr out does many other gtrs from other manufacturers. It is sturdy and the light bumps it has gotten don't seem to end up marking it. I try to care for it when carrying it around in the public areas on the ship. I use it acoustically in a live situation by strolling tables once a week in the lounge and the main dining room on the ship. |

I've given you my opinions about this gtr in the above categories. It covers all of these questions. As I said, I love this gtr, but I also have many other gtrs that I love too. For a comparison, this gtr compares favoriably to my Taylor 410 but at 1/5th the cost. It is a sturdy well built gtr and I'm sure that Martin will sell a ton of them. I highly recommend this gtr for a steadily working professional like me or a beginner. It sounds very good and projects like a dreadnaught is expected to do. The only difference is this one is made w/ modern construction materials. It's an A+ to me. |

Bought at Brookdale Music in Naperville, IL for $500. It was on sale, so I bought it based on the Martin name. It was the first acoustic guitar I ever owned.

Nothing special feature wise. No frills, but who needs 'em? I run a recording studio and to me, the sound is the most important things. I don't really care that it looks like a piece of furniture, with it's laminate back and sides and unrealistic wood neck. |

No problems so far, no big physical problems with the guitar.
I guess this is the SOUND section so I'll say it here. This thing sound awful. It's the worst sounding Martin I have ever played, and one of the worst sounding guitars. However, I got a dud, and I know it. Like I said, this was my first guitar and I didn't know anything about anything when I bought it. I bought it because the top had the best pattern of all the ones in the store. What a dumb thing to do, right? But, I brought it back a few months later after I realized how bad it sounded, and played it in that same store next to other DX1s. They ALL blew mine away and sounded great.
So, I would advise you to be smarter than me. Buy it for the SOUND!!!! Make sure the store has more than one DX1 if you are buying it. But don't buy it cause it looks pretty, which it really doesn't anyway. |

No coating on the top to speak of. I guess it is thinly coated, but it stains really easily and does not wipe off. Got blood on it (stabbed myself while stringing it) and couldn't wipe it off, even immediately. Oh well. Everything else is solid, I guess- fake wood is probably more resilient than real wood. |

I got a dud, I know it. They are good guitars, with the exception of mine. I'm kind of bitter about it, so don't take my word for it, try it yourself and LISTEN, don't just look!!! |

About 600.00 at guitar center including tax and hardshell case. I've owned it about 8 months now. I was walking through GC's acoustic room , saw it picked it up, played it and was floored by the sounp and price.

While I wasn't crazy about the "Pergo" look to the back and sides and the unusual looking stratobond neck, once I started playing it my jaw dropped. It's nice and fat on the low end and nice and clear in the upper range. I play acoustic blues and country/ bluegress and this guitar is well suited for both. |

I bought my dx1 at a Guitar Center in Pennsylvania.I have been playing for 15 years. And I mainly play electric lead. But I have recently been asked by some companys to write music for their web sites,so I needed a good acoustic.I tried everything j-200's,taylor 12strings,and Rickenbackers. The dx1 was hands down the best.It just feels right. The sound and look are stunning. The price is so low I couldn't believe it.My other musician friends thought it was high end.(which is what I usually buy!)The neck and tone are what won me over.I normally buy Gibson or Epiphone but this Martin rocks!I paid 450.oo for it.I would have paid more.

The Martin DX1 is a bare-bones guitar. No fancy inlay, no flamed or quilted wood. It's just a great sounding guitar. Play one next to a high-end Yamaha, Ibanez, Fender, Guild, etc, and you'll see what I mean. It has beautiful low-end clarity, and its warmth is comparable to some of the $1200-1500 Taylors I played. The DX1 is the perfect guitar for someone who's ready to evolve from an average guitar to a very good guitar. Like going from a Honda to a BMW. |

The action was very, very good right out of the box. It's very lightweight, and has surprising low-end depth for its weight. The neck is lightly varnished, and silky smooth to play. Your thumb just glides quietly from chord to chord. I wish the neck was a tad thicker, but I'll get used to it. |

I've been a professional guitarist for 20+ years. I have never owned an acoustic worth more than $200, simply because electric has always been my forte. Needing an acoustic for home recording, I went to Sam Ash with the notion of buying a $300-400 Yamaha or Washburn. I played 10-15 guitars before the salesman finally said "You're a good player. You should be looking at good guitars." He brought out a Martin DX1, and from the first chord I strummed, I was in love. Even my girlfriend - who knows jack about guitars - was amazed at the difference. |

I love this guitar! Although it is the first guitar I purchased, I played quite a few before deciding on this one. I doubt I will need to buy another guitar for 20 years, I have that much faith in it. This is hands down the best acoustic I have seen for less than $500. |
