Guitar Center, $629 (no case).
The day I bought my DCX1E, I played about 30 different guitars at two stores. At the first store, I had settled on a Taylor, but wanted to play a few more. So I went to Guitar Center. I started with a $3,000 Gibson, then worked my way around the "high end" room, getting a feel for what the best of the best played and sounded like.
Then I saw this lonely little Martin hanging in a corner. I pulled it down, and was absolutley astonished. It played and souded as well or better than most of the guitars in the "high end" room. The sound was even across the entire range - it was full without being bassy and muddy, it was bright without being tinny. And it projected sound better than almost all of the other guitars I played that day.
In the end, for $629, it completely outperformed all of the other guitars I played that day. (The $3k Gibson PERHAPS being the only exception - I didn't bring the Gibson into the practice room, so I really can't say 100% for sure that it played better than the DCX1E.)
I also played it alongside an Ovation just so I could compare an HPL Martin with an Ovation - the Ovation didn't even come close, either in neck action or in overall tone.
This is a remarkable instrument.

HPL laminate, Sitka wood top, 4 band EQ.
Excellent neck action. (Although the one I bought was different than another DCX1E that was hanging on the wall, so play a couple of them before you decide which one is right for you.)
Full range tone. Very responsive to only moderate pressure strumming or picking. It projects quite well.
Silky smooth tuners. |

My only complaint is that there is little space between the high E and the edge of the fingerboard, so when doing bar chords, the string sometimes slips off the fret and onto the side of the fingerboard. But this may be more a result of playing with a 40 year old Ibanez with slightly narrower string spacings and more room at the fretboard edge. This is a small thing, and I am adjusting my bar chording to compensate. (i.e., it's probably MY problem, not the guitar's problem.) Everything else is absolutely perfect. |

The guitar is flawlessly constructed. Beautiful workmanship. (This was made in Mexico - Martin must really be doing something right!!!!!) |

I chose the DCX1E because the price was right, and it easily outperformed other instruments that were much more expensive than the $629 I paid for it. |

There is no on board tuner, but who needs one with this quality guitar that rarely goes out of tune anyway? It has an equaliser and sounds great through the system. |

For the price, it's probably the best guitar on market depennding on what you're looking for. If you're wanting a good electro acoustic for a good price then buy it! |

Totally steady for live gigs. It feels solid when you're playing it and you can really get stuck into it. |

Guitar Center 689. Went there intending to get an ovation, played about 10 guitars and thought this one sounded sweetest and was easiest to play.

Steady enough for live gigs. Does not 'jump' into tune or stay tuned, would be my biggest complaint. |

It's dubbed as the "Workingman's" guitar and I would agree. Excellent sound and playbility for a reasonable price. |

The guitar sounds pretty good but the overall quality is fairly poor. The neck is made of cheap wood and is prone to warp. The bridge pin is too high and needs to be sanded down. The lamenated sides is a cheap alternative to a solid body. My biggest compaint is the neck. |

For the price it's not bad. For a couple hundred more bucks you can get something much better in terms of quality. Your paying a lot for the Martin name |

I bought this guitar at a small guitar store in Williamsburg, VA. I avoided the high prices that you can find at Guitar Center, and other stores like that. The person who helped was very knowledgeable, and let me play as long as I wanted. Even though it was my first guitar that I have ever bought, he was very helpful. He gave me a very fair price of $650 with included a soft travel case.
I would pay that again.

This is one of the niceest guitars that I have ever played. I have had many people play this guitar, who are very experienced players, and they have said the same thing. This guitar compares to some higher class Taylor and Gibson guitars. The sound quality is so pure and the action on the guitar is great for beginners. |

Given the fact that I have only been playing for two years this January, I wouldn't consider myself to be an expert by any means. But from what other, more experienced players have said, this guitar compares to many high end Taylors and Gibsons. In fact, one person, said that it sounded much better and was much easier to play then his Taylor. |

Not only does it have excellent sound quality, great tone, and easy to play, it is also an acoustic/electric. And when it is plugged in, it makes it sound even sweeter.
It is one of those guitars that you have to just pick up and play. |

The only time this guitar needs frequent adjusting is when the strings get worn down. But even then, it still sounds great. I really like to extra light strings on the guitar to make it easy to play. But some prefer a much tougher string. |

I am so happy that I purchased a guitar that would last me a long time. I am not the kind of person who justs buys some crap guitar when you are a beginner. I believe that you can learn better, with better equipment. |
