Review by garyguitar on Dec 13, 2007

Bayou BA20SCE .. Bought online from http://bayouguitars.com/
Paid $599.00 Canadian with free shipping and a gig bag.
I read good reviews on this guitar.

  Features

For the money I couldnt find better features. B-Band A3.2 pickup system with EQ. The battery compartment is on the lower bottom bout, So its easy to get at . Its solid Sitka Spruce from Canada on the top. Mahogany sides and back. Great feeling neck, vintage feeling Gibsonish thin neck . I got a vintage sunburst color, nice finish quality. The tuners are sealed gear work well .

  Playability

I tried alot of acoustics and this one has a thinner neck its more of an old Gibson feel. Very comfortable. I have average size hands and its great . The fret dressing and set up was excellent no probs with any buzzes etc.

  Quality

Sound quality is good . Plugged in its excellent..which is really what it is designed for. Unplugged is good too. but like any brand a full dreadnaught gives a little more bottom end. This is a Gibsonish clear acoustic tone . If you are looking for a boomy bottom end this is probably not for you. I find when you have a pickup in an acoustic you want the guitar to sound very even and acoustic sounding ..then you can boost the frequencies you need if required. Its hard to remove to much bottom end on a recordingor in a live situation. So the EQ is excellent and does everything I want.

  Durability

I use the guitar live and have no problems. The pickup is exceptional, sounds real natural. The pickup is from Finland , B-Band. It is different than a piezo. I found piezos to sound really quacky. This is like having a condenser microphone on your guitar. Very impressed with the sound plugged in. The sound unplugged is good too. But you lack a little bit because of the cutaway obviously. I use it mainly plugged in and sitting around home practicing and writing tunes.

I have to rate this guitar excellent because if you compare it to anything else for 599.00 its just awesome.
Free shipping with the online orders was a bonus, as well as the free gig bag.
The B-Band Eq system is more than I expected its the best i've ever heard.
Highly Recommended

I ordered this guitar online from http://bayouguitars.com/. I saw reviews on these guitars and I love B-Band pickups. When I received the guitar I was pleasantly surprised. The neck was great very nice feel not too small. Fits my hand perfect one of those necks you dont have to even think about. The pickup was really good . When I plug in I get great real acoustic sound. I took advantage of the online free shipping anywhere in North America. I paid 599.00 canadian and I also got a free gig bag .

The solid Sitka spruce top is great . Nice straight clear grain. I got the natural finish. I thought about getting the sunburst tho. Both looked nice. The B-Band system I installed before in an older Martin so I knew they made great pickups. It performs very well in the Bayou. I like the fact the battery compartment is on the bottom of the lower bout. Good thinking Bayou. I never did like putting my hand in the sound hole to change batteries:P The cutaway is great ,allowing easy access to the high notes I miss on my old Martin.

  Playability

The guitar was set up well when I received it. Action was fine. Frets well dressed , no sharp edges, It says handcrafted inside the soundhole, so I assume they do some set up on them. I looked at some other guitars like Takamine , Seagull, Washburn , before I decided on this guitar. The Tak didnt have as good a pickup and was way more money. Seagull I hated the feel of the neck..It dug into sides of my fingers.Washburn was not wha tI had hoped for as far as fret quality and neck straightness. Im very happy with the Bayou .

I use this guitar for recording. I plug right into the board with the B-Band EQ. I add a bit of reverb and a hair of bottom end and Im good to go. Ive used it live as well. The onboard EQ is crucial especially if you have a brain dead soundman. No problems at all yet. the tuning gears are sealed and perform well. I wouldnt hesitate to use this guitar exclusively on live gigs. Matter of fact I have many times.

Bought from Westcoast Music Vancouver Canada New $500USD came with a Bag. I bought this guitar because I looked around at lots of different brands from Takamine Yamaha Washburn SeaGull and this was the only guitar that sounded like a real acoustic when you plugged it in. It sounds so natural its unbelievable. Probly because they put A B-Band pickup and EQ in this guitar . I think the pickup is from Finland anyway it sounds so natural I love it. Everything else I tried had an electric sound when you plugged it in it didnt sound at all the same as the acoustic sound. The top on this guitar was high grade Sitka spruce and it had a nice gloss laquer finish that protects the wood. I saw too many guitars made from cedar without any finish I definitely didnt want that. The feel of the guitar was so comfortable when i picked it up I didnt want to put it down. When the salesman plugged me in to the acoustic amp I was sold. Im very happy and dont know how this company can make such a great product at this price point.

This guitar lacks nothing that I need. It sounds nice acoustically and when you plugit in. Feels great , looks great, sounds great, and the price was great. I would have had to pay 1000 bucks for a comparable solid top Takamine and it would have had a cheaper pickup system.
